New Space For Start-Ups Planned 2018

New Space For Start-Ups Planned 2018

Wednesday, 26 October 2016

Our major new £10 million Innovation Centre will provide a focal point for the Knowledge Gateway, and work to create the centre is set to commence December 2016, for completion in 2018.

The centre will be able to accommodate more than 50 start-up and small hi-tech businesses, plus practical, hands-on support and expertise businesses can lean on to help them to start-up, scale-up, and succeed.

The centre further builds on the community of 20+ SMEs who have already joined us on the Knowledge Gateway at Parkside Office Village, and we estimate that up to 400 further jobs could be created within the first 10 years of its development.

Located on our Colchester Campus, the centre is at the heart of our Knowledge Gateway masterplan, which envisions 2,000 people eventually working here, drawn not just by the excellent business accommodation, but also the business and academic support and on-campus resources and faclities provided by a leading research-intensive university.

This development further supports our commitment to boosting the economic impact of the University of Essex in the eastern region; according to a 2015 report, our direct and indirect contribution is £0.5 billion per annum.
