Colchester 2020

Colchester 2020It's made up of a group of high-profile community leaders from the public, private, voluntary and community sectors. Our job is to help shape the future of the borough for the next 10 to 20 years, improving the lives of the people who live, work, visit and study here. The Partnership provides a long term vision for the borough, strengthening links between the public and private sectors, local government, cultural, heritage and leisure organisations, the voluntary and community sectors, businesses and local residents. By working together we can achieve so much more than working alone. We can make sure services and projects are co-ordinated, spot opportunities that may have otherwise been missed and achieve results by lobbying, championing and bringing others together to find new ways to help Colchester prosper.

Colchester2020 is not a statutory body but it does have a responsibility to shape the type of place Colchester should be in the years to come and provide leadership to deliver this future vision.

Colchester 2020The Chair of Colchester2020 is Tim Newcomb, Divisional Commander, Colchester and Tendring Police. Our Managing Director, Ewan Dodds, is the Lead Partner for promoting business, increasing employment opportunities and improving educational and skills attainment. Upon his appointment in this role, Ewan said: "As Managing Director of Whybrow Chartered Surveyors, who have been based in Colchester town centre for over 20 years, and a previous President of Colchester Chamber of Commerce, our business community is important to me as it represents the town’s very heartbeat and is central to our economic growth. My role on Colchester2020 is to work alongside the town’s other lead organisations, and to engage with local business. Having launched a business vision for Colchester, over the past 12 months we have secured funding which has allowed this priority sector to employ a marketing company through whom we have undertaken a series of high profile events including a business questionnaire, publicity to encourage businesses to locate in Colchester rather than travel to London and a well attended power breakfast to which many travelled by public transport. We anticipate further initiatives designed to signpost the numerous opportunities open to business in and around our exciting town and aim to continue working closely with the other business groups to ensure our continued success and prosperity."
