Former NHS Unit Sold Near Norwich

Former NHS Unit Sold Near Norwich

Wednesday, 27 April 2016

Situated approximately 2 ½ miles to the east of Norwich City Centre, close to St Andrew’s Business Park and adjacent to St Andrew’s Park, in Thorpe St Andrew, a former NHS inpatient unit, Meadowlands, has been sold unconditionally by the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) to a private development company.

Comprising a substantial two storey building of 745 sq.m on a self-contained site of 0.6 Hectares (1.47 acres), the Trust formerly used Meadowlands to offer support and services to people with mental health illnesses, since 1996, until it was deemed no longer suitable to house services in 2013.

Whybrow Chartered Surveyors acted for the Trust on this sale, along with the sale of a smaller unit on Yarmouth Road, known as Highlands.

Ewan Dodds BSc FRICS, the acting agent on the sale, said: “We are delighted to have completed the sale of these two substantial properties in Norfolk for our long standing clients within the timescales set, and to assisted in delivering money that can be returned into the health service.”

Mark Kittle, Head of Strategic Estates and Maintenance Services at NSFT, said: “The sale of Meadowlands is part of the Trust’s ongoing strategy to review its estate, ensuring that we do not use important NHS resources to maintain empty properties, which are no longer fit for purpose. Instead, we can reinvest these resources into maintaining or upgrading buildings where we can provide a safe and suitable environment for our service users.”
